utility deposits

news story

07.09.10

all nine news reported on this several years ago, but this city ordinance had not been enforced. the city of liberty recently began enforcing an ORDINANCE adopted by city council back in 2003 requiring utility security deposits from any residential customer who has been late paying three city utility bills within a 12-month period. since enforcement of the ordinance was not announced, it has evoked some complaints from liberty residents. as a result, city manager gary broz said next tuesday’s city council meeting includes an agenda item allowing for discussions on the seven-year old ordinance. gary broz said he plans to offer council some options for modifying the ordinance to be more customer friendly while still protecting the city. liberty’s top administrator said city POLICY also requires all new RESIDENTIAL customers to pay a $165 deposit, which is refunded after 12 months of on-time payments.

another section of the city’s utility policy calls for a 10 percent PENALTY on bills paid after the due date. however, gary broz said that assessment can be waived for those who are disabled or 65 and older, but only if those folks go by city hall to speak with the utility department staff.

as city manager, gary broz is responsible for carrying out directives of liberty city council. to that end, city workers recently began enforcing a 2003 ordinance that requires a $165 security deposit from any RESIDENTIAL customer who has paid their utility bill late on three or more occasions during a one-year PERIOD. that policy will be placed on the city council agenda next week for DISCUSSIONS. the city manger says he will present options for modifying that 2003 ORDINANCE. liberty council will meet tuesday at 6 p.m. in city hall.

dayton broncos

news story

07.09.10

the dayton broncos don’t rebuild, they reload – that’s the assessment of Dave Campbell’s 2010 texas football magazine.

The well-known publication - now on newsstands – is in its 51st season of detailing high school, college and professional football in the state of texas. as kshn previously reported, Dayton is picked to once again win the district 19-4a title this season and are ranked 13th in the MAGAZINE’S statewide class 4-a preseason poll. according to the publication, the broncos are returning six offensive and five defensive starters from a 2009 team that advanced to the state quarterfinals last year. dayton started five sophomores on OFFENSE in that last playoff game and those youngsters are said by the MAGAZINE to be growing up fast. but, as is often the case with jerry stewart coached teams, it’s the defensive side of the ball that gets the highest praise from the storied publication. among dave campbell’s preseason all-state 4-a first team is dayton’s defensive lineman darrian wright who has the size and strength to take over games in the trenches. also singled out is linebacker aaron ripkowski. back to offense, the MAGAZINE reports the skill positions are set for two more years with andreas herrera at quarterback, jakari delasbour at running back and gamal fowler playing wide receiver. summing up the broncos upcoming season, dave campbell’s reports they always seem to have the ANSWERS to their problems, so pencil in the purple and white to go at least two games deep into the playoffs. concerning other district 19-4a squads, texas football says the crosby cougars are one of five teams across the state that should be considered what it calls a darkhorse, described as a team that didn’t make the PUBLICATION’S preseason top 25 but is an opponent that district foes would be foolish to ignore. with that in mind, crosby is seen by the magazine as finishing second in the eight-team district followed by goose creek memorial and the barbers hill eagles are seen as fourth. so, if dave campbell’s is correct, the 4-a dayton broncos – ranked 13th in the state – might make another run at the state 4-a championship. last year, athletic director and head coach jerry stewart took his charges to the state quarterfinals. the year before that, they played for the state title. entering this season, coach stewart has 123 wins in his 14 seasons as bronco boss. dayton’s first scrimmage is scheduled for august 14 against west orange stark. they open their 10-game schedule at fort bend elkins on august 27. the dayton broncos first home game will be SEPTEMBER 10 versus the ANGLETON wildcats. we will have more details on other locals teams from "dave campbell’s texas football" in future newscasts.
