the liberty-dayton chamber of commerce steak Dinner, Auction and ‘500’ Drawing is this friday at the dayton community center. there’s still time to get a 500 ticket for your chance to win a limited edition john deere luxury all-terrain vehicle or any one of the twelve prizes with a total combined value of more than $20,000. that john deere gator is 4-wheel drive and includes a windshield, lift kit, mud tires, front spot lights, floor mats and lots more. the other valuable prizes in this year’s liberty-dayton chamber 500 drawing include a family trip, a $500 visa gift card, a computer plus a brighton handbag and jewelry. there’s also a $400 gift certificate for tires and service at milam discount tires, a 32-inch television, a char-log double swing, an x-box elite with two games, a $250 chevron gift card, wind chimes, and a $150 gift card for any thrif-tee food center. as always, only 500 tickets are sold for a chance to win one of those 12 great prizes. For information, call the liberty-dayton chamber at 936-336-5736. hardin football news story 08.08.10 high school football players across the state began their often dreaded two-a-way workouts last monday. by friday, they were donning their pads and fighting the texas heat. hardin high school head coach and athletic director larry haynes said the hornets are on the field at 6 a.m. in an effort to finish workouts before temperatures get too high. "audio" coach haynes said he was pleased with the first week of practice and the leadership provided by hardin’s 15 seniors. ‘audio" the hornet’s head coach said the first week of practice included some drills to see who was ready to hit. "audio" over the summer, hardin’s 7-on-7 football team EXPERIENCED success, advancing to the semifinals in their bracket of the state tourney before falling in overtime. coach larry haynes said that success is a POSITIVE for the blue and gold. "audio" the hardin hornets will be in the newly formed district 10-2a, division 1 this fall. that district now includes state-powerhouse NEWTON along with winnie east-chambers, anahuac, buna, woodville, kountze, and warren. the hornets began their two-a-day practices last monday in PREPARATION for the upcoming season. hardin looks to take advantage of its 15 returning seniors and parlay the team’s 7-on-7 success over the summer into a winning lampson on the run news story 08.09.10 liberty county sheriff’s department is asking for the public’s help to locate a liberty county man who ran from deputies following a routine traffic stop saturday. sheriff’s spokesman steve greene said they are looking for ricke lampson. he is described as 6 feet tall and 235 pounds with hazel hair and brown eyes. ricke lampson is wanted for probation violation and stalking. on saturday, deputies stopped a vehicle near the overpass on state HIGHWAY 146 in hardin. that is when rick lampson fled into the woods. despite a search, he was not located. now, liberty county sheriff’s department is asking for the public’s help. again, ricke lampson is said to be 6-foot tall and weigh 235 pounds. he has hazel eyes and brown hair. he was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white plaid shirt. ricke lampson is wanted on felony warrants for probation violation and stalking. anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 936-336-4500, ext 0. kelly and lee news story 08.09.10 kshn has been reporting since thursday that liberty COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT CAPTAIN HARRY KELLEY HAS BEEN indicted by a federal grand jury on 107 counts INVOLVING the theft of firearms, POSSESSION of stolen AMMUNITION and CONSPIRACY to commit mail fraud. during thursday’s press conference ANNOUNCING those charges, u.s. attorney john bales said another man – gary lee, owner of sportsman’s outlet in humble – has also been charged in conjunction with the INVESTIGATION against capt. kelley "audio" HARRY KELLEY CAME TO THE SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT FROM THE CLEVELAND POLICE DEPARTMENT WHEN HIS then CO-WORKER, HENRY PATTERSON, was elected and took officer AS SHERIFF IN JANUARY 2009. during thursday’s press conference, john bales responded to a reporter’s question alleging henry patterson also had a key to the evidence room that housed those weapons that we’re stolen. the federal PROSECUTOR said henry patterson is not a target of this investigation. "audio" as for gary lee, we are told he pled guilty back in april to WITHHOLDING information on a crime. that is an indication he is cooperating with prosecutors and providing evidence for their case against harry kelley. at the current time, the federal PROSECUTORS office said gary lee is awaiting sentencing for WITHHOLDING INFORMATION. in the 60-page federal indictment against harry kelley, count 107 SPECIFICALLY mentions gary lee and sportsman’s outlet by name. john bales discusses that INDICTMENT AGAINST harry kelley for conspiracy to COMMIT mail fraud. "audio" again, gary lee, owner of sportsman’s outlet in humble – has already pled guilty and is awaiting sentencing for WITHHOLDING information on a crime. it is believed he is cooperating with prosecutors who have charged SHERIFF’S CAPTAIN HARRY kelley with 103 counts of possession of a stolen firearm, two counts of POSSESSION of a FIREARM without serial numbers, one count of POSSESSION of stolen ammunition, and one COUNT of conspiracy to COMMIT mail fraud. ALL THOSE federal ALLEGATIONS stem from his work as a detective with cLEVELAND PD. HARRY KELLEY HAS ENTERED A PLEA OF NOT GUILTY, AND HIS ATTORNEY – jack zimmerman of houston - says they will FIGHT THE ALLEGATIONS IN COURT.
