hit and run news story 07.26.10 a 27-year-old cleveland woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle early saturday morning on state highway 105. according to other media reports, the woman’s husband was on the way to pick up his wife but instead discovered her body on the side of highway 105 near fm 1725. that report says at first he saw some of her personal items on the side of the roadway and then found his wife’s body lying in a nearby ditch. the cleveland ADVOCATE newspaper says cleveland police department has since located the driver of the suspect VEHICLE. an investigation is ongoing. those reports say nearly 100 pieces of evidence were collected along the roadway, INCLUDING a headlight and the victim’s shoes. cleveland police chief mark bradshaw did not return our phone call, and the cleveland pd DISPATCHER said no one was available on sunday’s for more information. kshn will have more details on a 27-year-old cleveland woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle early SATURDAY morning on state highway 105 in a future newscast. the woman’s death was a hit and run, but it is now believed a subject has been located. motorcycle wreck news story 07.26.10 a dayton man was taken by air ambulance to a houston hospital following a motorcycle accident in liberty early saturday morning. liberty pd public information officer hugh bishop said 41-year-old felix gomez lost control of his MOTORCYCLE on virginia street just south of washington around 1:3o a.m. SATURDAY. police say he was not wearing a helmet. liberty ems transported the man to the helipad behind the fire station. from there, he was flown to MEMORIAL hermann hospital. according to liberty police, the injured man - felix gomez - was riding his motorcycle at an unsafe speed and alcohol may have been a contributing factor. any CITATIONS are pending the liberty pd investigation. repeating, feliz gomez of dayton was transported by life flight to a houston hospital following a MOTORCYCLE accident in liberty early SATURDAY morning. no word on his condition. weekend recap news story 07.26.10 another reminder - the liberty INDEPENDENT school district will host a town hall meeting tomorrow at 6 p.m. in the school administration board room to get public input on another bond issue for updating and renovating campuses within the district. following a failed bond election this past may, liberty school administrators have been looking for ways to present a more PALATABLE plan to the community to accomplish some of the much-needed construction, renovations, technological improvements, upgrades and repairs to various campuses in lisd. during tomorrow’s board meeting, school trustees hope to hear from those both in favor and in OPPOSITION TO a bond issue for the liberty school district. recapping other news from the weekend, liberty high school graduating senior ann thu do (ahn-too-doE) is the 2010 statewide winner of the art of conservation stamp award in the 12th annual wildlife forever state fish art contest. that was announced july 17 at the texas freshwater fisheries center in athens. the teen’s painting of a steelhead trout also took first place for grades 10 through 12 in the texas division contest. this past school year, she was a senior art student of marsha rader at lhs. now, ahn thu do’s painting is on a collector’s stamp. proceeds from sales of that stamp go to funding wildlife forever conservations projects. for information on how to purchase the stamp and other related items, go to www.statefishart.com. kshn also reported saturday that liberty police department public information officer hugh bishop has been named the department’s school resource officer for liberty isd. for the past two years, the district and the city of liberty have shared the expense of one police officer who works most of the year as a school resource officer and the REMAINDER of their time is with the police department. barbie skarpa-miller has been serving in that roll, but she has been promoted inside the liberty pd to detective and hugh bishop assumed her duties at the liberty schools. IT IS ON THE HWY 146 BYPASS IN LIBERTY. LIBERTY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT DR. CYNTHIA LUSIGNOLO SAID MR. YOUNG COMES MOST RECENTLY FROM THE PASADENA ISD AND WHILE THIS IS HIS FIRST PRINCIPLE POSITION, HE HAS A GREAT DEAL OF EXPERIENCE IN SUPERVISING BOTH STAFF AND STUDENTS.

CITY MANAGER GARY BROZ SAID FIRST VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE BUILDING SHOULD BE VISIBLE LATE THIS MORNING. THE MORNING FORECAST INDICATES LITTLE OR NO CHANCE FOR THE WET STUFF, THE AFTERNOON SHOWS SIGNIFICANT CHANCE FOR RAINFALL. WHAT WAS CALLED LIBERTY WAS BUILT IN 1930.. THEN AS ALL SMALL TOWN HOSPITALS SEEM TO DO, IT FAILED FINANCIALLY AND WAS SOLD FOR DEBTS IN 1935. MR. AND MRS. CLARENCE CHAMBERS BOUGHT THE FACILITY AND DONATED IT TO AN CATHOLIC NURSES ORDER IN OHIO. THEY CAME HERE AND OPERATED IT AS MERCY HOSPITAL UNTIL 1963 WHEN IT FAILED FINANCIALLY AGAIN AND CLOSED. SINCE THEN IT HAS SERVED AS A NURSING HOME, THEN AS A LOCAL CHARITY – SPIRIT OF SHARING – AND THEN JUST ROTTED AWAY AND WAS SEIZED TWO YEARS AGO WHEN ITS LOCAL OWNERS DID NOT PAY PROPERTY TAXES. THE BUILDING HAS BEEN DANGEROUS FOR SOME TIME. A. A. R. DEMOLITION CO. OF HOUSTON WILL REMOVE THE FOUR STORY BRICK BUILDING AND CLEAR THE SITE.. THEN IT WILL BE SOLD WITH HALF THE PROCEEDS GOING TO THE LIBERTY COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, ¼ GOES TO THE COUNTY AND ¼ TO LISD THOSE THREE TAXING ENTITIES FUNDED THE DEMOLITION EFFORT.
