truck-train wreck news story 07.30.10 officials have still not released the name of a truck driver killed wednesday night when his tractor-trailer rig was struck by a union pacific train near dayton. however, dps trooper chris cash said the dead man is from out of state and he is attempting to notify the driver’s family. the FATALITY accident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. wednesday on county ROAD 622. Trooper cash said the 18-wheeler struck by the train was in a line of trucks waiting to be loaded with railroad ties. "audio" Dayton Volunteer fire department assistant chief murphy green said his FIREFIGHTERS arrived to a major diesel-fueled fire, but it was easily extinguished. justice of the peace pct. 4 glen pruitt pronounced the out-of-state truck driver dead and ordered an autopsy. again, that fiery accident between an 18-wheeler and a union pacific train occurred around 7 p.m. WEDNESDAY night. the out-of-state truck driver was killed, but the conductor and engineer on the train were not injured.
LIBERTY COUNCIL news story 07.31.10 The Liberty City Council Tuesday night gave preliminary approval to an electrical service agreement with the Boomerang Tube plant south of town. The motion by Frank Jordan authorizes City Manager Gary Broz and City Attorney Randy Gunter to negotiate the details of the agreement, which will come back to council in the form of an ordinance for final approval. The motion was seconded by Mike McCarty and passed on a 5-0 vote. Two council members, Dennis Beasley and Al Simonson, were unable to attend the meeting. The council action came after an hour-long executive session and a series of ongoing closed-door sessions on the same subject. lisd budget news story 07.30.10 liberty isd trustees are NEARING ADOPTION OF THE 2010-2011 BUDGET THAT WILL CUT 19 ½ POSITIONS THROUGH ATTRITION WHILE MAINTAINING THE SAME TAX RATE FROM RECENT YEARS. overall, the proposed budget cuts expenses by 10 percent or about $1.8 million. LIBERTY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT DR. CYNTHIA LUSIGNOLO SAID IT’S PART OF AN EFFORT TO BALANCE THE DISTRICT’S BUDGET WITHOUT dipping into GENERAL FUND RESERVES or raising property taxes. Texas Department of Transportation spokesman mark shepherd says the project involves repairing the highway between Dolen and the San Jacinto County line. starting monday, workers will begin a two-month project that includes repairing the base and then resurfacing the roadway. Smith and Company, the project contractor, expects to have the $785,000 project completed by mid-September, weather permitting. repeating, road work begins monday on that three-mile section of fm 223 in liberty county between dolen and the san jacinto county line. TxDOT officials remind drivers to pay extra attention in the work zone. please watch for workers and stopped vehicles. INMATE DEATH LOCAL NEWS DATE: A US MARSHALL’S PRISONER, BEING HELD IN THE LIBERTY COUNTY JAIL WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE LIBERTY DAYTON REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER YESTERDAY EVENING. INFORMATION INDICATES THE 34 YEAR OLD MALE WAS FOUND HANGING IN HIS CELL. WE ARE NOT RELEASING HIS NAME AT THIS TIME UNTIL ANY LOCAL FAMILY MEMBERS HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. AN EMPLOYEE OF COMMUNITY EDUCATION CENTER, THE COMPANY CONTRACTED TO OPERATE THE JAIL, IS SAID TO HAVE FOUND THE MAN BETWEEN 5:30 and 6 YESTERDAY EVENING. THE LIBERTY COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT, US MARSHALS SERVICE AND THE TEXAS RANGERS ARE INVESTIGATING THE DEATH. IN AN EARLIER REPORT, WE TOLD YOU THE CITY OF LIBERTY IS DRAFTING A NEW VERSION OF AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING UTILITY DEPOSITS FROM CUSTOMERS WHO FALL BEHIND IN PAYING THEIR BILL. CITY MANAGER GARY BROZ SAID 168 LIBERTY UTILITY CUSTOMERS WERE AFFECTED BY THE OLD ORDINANCE. THAT’S 168 OUT OF A TOTAL 2,726 RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMERS AND 753 COMMERCIAL CUSTOMERS. MR. BROZ SAID THE CITY OF LIBERTY SENDS OUT 43, 595 UTILITY STATEMENTS EACH YEAR.

CITY MANAGER GARY BROZ SAID A SURVEY OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS CITIES’ ELECTRICAL RATES SHOW LIBERTY’S COST FOR ELECTRICAL POWER IS NOT EVEN NEAR THE TOP OF THE LIST. IN FACT, CITY MANAGER GARY BROZ SAID LIBERTY’S ELECTRIC RATES ARE RIGHT AT THE MIDDLE OF THE LIST FROM HIGHEST TO LOWEST IN SOUTHEAST TEXAS. LIBERTY RESIDENTS NEED TO REMEMBER THEIR CITY UTILITY BILL IS NOT JUST ELECTRICITY- EACH MONTH LIBERTY CUSTOMERS ARE BILLED FOR WATER, SEWAGE, GARBAGE PICKUP AND ALSO ELECTRICITY. |
