lusignolo on bond election

news story

05.22.10

AS REPORTED, liberty isd voters REJECTED THE DISTRICT’S PROPOSED $18.27 million bond election BACK ON MAY 8. if it had passed, the money would have funded renovations to the district’s aging facilities plus construction of a new administration and co-op building. a new high school classroom wing was also included. ALTHOUGH THAT BOND ISSUE FAILED, Lisd SUPERINTENDENT DR. CYNTHIA LUSIGNOLO SAID THE NEEDS STILL EXIST.

"AUDIO"

about a week before that may 8 election, local property tax appraisals arrived in the mail. as we reported, the liberty county appraisal district is on a six-YEAR ROTATING schedule for actually VISITING each property in a specific area. this year, the APPRAISERS spent their time seeing each property within the liberty isd BOUNDARIES. as a result, tax appraisals in the district were up, sometimes way up. according to dr. lusignolo, that had an impact on the election’s outcome.

"audio"

the lisd superintendent said since the need still EXISTs to make improvements to liberty’s educational facilities, officials are trying to listen to the CONCERNS of area residents so the district can make a new bond proposal, possibly this coming november.

‘audio"

so, while liberty isd voters rejected an $18.27 million bond election earlier this month, school officials said the planned renovations and new construction are still needed. as a result, they are evaluating the situation and plan to bring a new bond PROPOSAL before the district’s voters – probably late this year. kshn will have more from our conversation with dr. cynthia lusignolo on the bond election and the district’s needs in a coming newscast.
