LIBERTY county child abuse case

local news

date:

A Liberty County woman is under investigation for alleged abuse and/or neglect of her 8-YEAR-OLD son. Information GATHERED from several sources including some houston media outlets indicates an 8-YEAR-OLD boy MAY HAVE BEEN forced to live in a CHURCH across the street from the family home. THAT HOME, WE ARE TOLD, IS on state highway 321 near cleveland. the LITTLE BOY apparently told an EMPLOYEE of a nearby veterinarian’s CLINIC THAT his mother, WHO WE ARE TOLD IS patricia mchaney, FORCED him to live in the ABANDONED church with nothing but a roll of toilet paper and paint can to use as a toilet. the VETERINARIAN CLINIC employee contacted the liberty county SHERIFFS department.  OUR BEST INFORMATION IS THAT THEY FOUND THE BOY IN WHAT WAS DESCRIBED AS AN "EMACIATED" CONDITION.   IF OUR INFORMATION IS ACCURATE THE 8-YEAR OLD WEIGHS ONLY ABOUT 45 POUNDS. THE AVERAGE WEIGHT FOR A BOY that AGE according to PEDIATRIC MEDICAL EXPERTS is 60 pounds. the low level is 45 with the upper limit of weight for that age is 90 pounds. the 8-YEAR-OLD boy is alleged to have told police his mother would not speak to him anD forced him to sleep in the FAMILY pickup at night. AGAIN, UNCONFIRMED INFORMATION HAS IT THAT two other children IN THAT MCHANEY FAMILY have BEEN removed from the home, AS HAS THE EIGHT YEAR OLD, WHILE AN investigation is on going. the case has been REFERRED to liberty county district attorney mike little who CONFIRMED IT IS being reviewed by the liberty county grand jury.  OBVIOUSLY MUCH IS MISSING IN THIS REPORT BUT INFORMATION FROM THE LIBERTY COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT IS VERY HARD TO COME BY.  THEY DID CONFIRM SUCH AN INFORMATION IS GOING ON BUT HAVE NOT ASKED FOR HELP FROM THE PUBLIC AND VIRTUALLY NO DETAILS ARE AVAILABLE ON WHETHER OR NOT THE BOY'S MOTHER IS A DANGER TO OTHER CHILDREN IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD NEAR CLEVELAND OR NOT.

lusignolo on bond election

news story

05.27.10

AS REPORTED, liberty isd voters REJECTED THE DISTRICT’S PROPOSED $18.27 million bond election BACK ON MAY 8. if it had passed, the money would have funded renovations mostly to the district’s oldest facilities plus construction of a high school classroom wing, plus a new administration and co-op building. all this was RECOMMENDED by a 33-member citizens panel after they studied facilities for several weeks. during a february liberty school board meeting, one member - lannise reidland - showed photographs pointing out the poor conditions of many of liberty isd’s education and support facilities. reidland detailed many areas that are not up to code or that do not comply with a.d.a. REQUIREMENTS. among the planned work was upgrades to non-compliant restrooms, new fire alarm systems, plus improvements to wiring and cabling. according to Lisd SUPERINTENDENT DR. CYNTHIA LUSIGNOLO, some of that work is grandfathered as to how other work is required.

"audio"

grandfathered or not, the superintendent said the work still needs to be done to make the facilities safe for all students, now and in the future. still other work will be required when the waivers for putting off the work run out. with this in mind, superintendent lusignolo said district officials need to listen to concerns from lisd residents so they can move forward with another bond proposal sooner rather than later.

"audio"

while liberty isd voters rejected an $18.27 million bond election earlier this month, school officials said the planned renovations and new construction are still needed. as a result, they are seeking input from district RESIDENTS with plans to bring a new bond PROPOSAL before the district’s voters – probably during the november general election.
