bellamy scholars news story 04.27.10 four south liberty county graduating seniors will each receive $10,000 scholarships from the bellamy EDUCATIONAL trust. another bellamy scholarship in the amount of $2,000 has been awarded to a former dayton high school graduate who has been accepted at the University of Texas Medical School at Galveston. the four $10,000 scholarships are funded at the rate of $2,500 per year for four years. this year’s bellamy scholars are trey cameron edmond of liberty high school. he is the son of rhonda edmond of dayton. from dayton high school is kaileah brittany seedorf. then there’s hull-DAISETTA senior morgan elizabeth brooks, daughter of mr. and mrs. lois brooks of liberty. from hardin is sarah lorain cessna, daughter of mr. and mrs. basil cessna of liberty. The additional $2,000 scholarship is awarded to MICHAEL BRAZOS FIELDER. he is a 2006 graduate of Dayton High School and a 2010 graduate from Baylor University. brazos is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Fielder. First Liberty National Bank serves as Trustee of the Dr. Richard C. and Esther Bellamy Educational Trust. Thirty students from Dayton, Hardin, Hull-Daisetta and Liberty submitted applications, which were reviewed by the Bellamy Scholarship Committee. To be eligible for a bellamy scholarship, an applicant must rank in the top ten percent of his or her graduating class or be otherwise qualified as determined by the selection committee. other criteria include character, general attitude, initiative, stability, leadership and potential for achievement. Scholarships are limited to recipients who will attend colleges and universities located within the State of Texas. This is the 29th consecutive year for the granting of scholarships by the Bellamy Trust, which was created under the Will of Dr. Richard C. Bellamy who died in 1981. Dr. Bellamy practiced medicine in Daisetta and later in Liberty from 1937 until his retirement in 1971. It was his desire that his entire estate be dedicated to the granting of financial assistance to students graduating from high schools in South Liberty County where his medical practice was centered. once more, this year’s RECIPIENTS of $10,000 bellamy scholarships are morgan brooks from hull-daisetta high school, sarah cessna from hardin, trey edmond of lhs, and kaileah seedorf from dayton high school. a $2,000 bellamy graduate scholarship for medical school goes to brazos fielder from dayton. including This year’s SCHOLARSHIPS, the Bellamy Educational Trust has awarded a total of $1.554 million to 189 students from South Liberty County over the past 29 years since its beginning.

Dayton High School’s Teacher of the Year is becky harris. the high school Rookie Teacher of the Year is sabrina lewis. from Woodrow Wilson Junior High, the top teacher is laura wilson and their outstanding Rookie is brianne mathis. the Nottingham educator honoree is kristina follett. that campus’ top Rookie is amanda ‘gracie’ amick. then from Kimmie Brown elementary, those being honored are Teacher of the year susan hankin and first-year EDUCATOR jessica weber. richter elementary staff has chosen to honor teacher sarah swaim and Rookie amily darnell. from the stephen f. austin campus, the top award recipient was grace juneau. that campus did not name a rookie of the year. colbert elementary Teacher of the Year is stacey neal, while fabiola cruz is their Rookie. from this select group of top dayton educators, dayton rotarians interview and pick an elementary and a secondary teacher of the year. this year, sarah swain earned RECOGNITION as disd elementary teacher of the year, and laura wilson was chosen top secondary educator in dayton. dayton softball news story 04.26.10 the dayton lady broncos softball team has earned a bi-district berth in the state playoffs. dayton will travel to nederland this friday for a 7 p.m. start against the lady bulldogs. the nederland girls are the second place team from district 20-4a while dayton advanced as the third team from 19-4a. the lady broncos finished the season 18-9 overall and 9-5 in district action. this is the fourth year out of the past six that the charges of coach daryl bell have advanced to the playoffs. repeating, the dayton broncos will play a bi-district playoff game against the nederland lady bulldogs this friday at 7 p.m. in NEDERLAND. san jac carnival news story 04.27.10 san jacinto elementary is putting on a carnival this friday evening, and the whole community is invited. stacey cain, principal at san jacinto, said this is something new for the campus, which has held a mexican dinner fund-raiser in the past.
