life flight called to accident news story 06.15.10 a cleveland area man was taken by life flight to memorial hermann hospital following a sunday morning accident. dps trooper chris cash said the wreck occurred shortly after 7 a.m. on state highway 105 east of highway 146. the INVESTIGATION revealed 50-year-old joseph bay apparently fell asleep at the wheel. the vehicle left the roadway and rolled onto its top. that accident occurred very near the new liberty county ems substation located near chubby’s packing plant, also on state highway 105. as a result, it took EMERGENCY PERSONNEL about two minutes to get from the substation to the accident scene. joseph bay was trapped inside his vehicle. observers told kshn that a passerby had a hacksaw, so emergency responders used that in an effort to free the victim until hardin and hull-daisetta volunteer fire departments got there with their EXTRICATION equipment. once the man was freed, he was airlifted to memorial hermann hosptial with what were described as crushing injuries to his hand, arm and elbow plus a head injury. trooper cash said 50-year-old joseph bay of the cleveland area is now in stable condition and remains hospitalized. dayton vfd dance news story 06.15.10 the dayton volunteer fire department will hold, what they’re calling, "the first ANNUAL hose down dance" next month on FRIDAY, july 30, at the DAYTON community center. in the meantime, the dayton firemen are already selling tickets and asking folks to put this event on their calendars. the july 30 dance will feature both the southern breeze band and the philip griffin band. doors will open at 7 p.m. july 30 with the bands set to start at 8 and continuing through midnight. general admission tickets to the dayton volunteer fire DEPARTMENT dance are $15 in advance or at the door. they also are selling reserved tables with seating for 10 people for $125, in advance only. so, mark your calendars for july 30 and join the dayton volunteer fire department for their hose down dance at the dayton community center. for tickets or information, call 936-402-6706. dare golf tourney News story 06.15.10 the deadline to sign up for the 15th annual bridgehaven-dare golf tournament is this friday. then, the annual fund-raising golf tourney is set for the following friday, june 25, at eagle pointe golf course in mont belvieu. it raises critically needed funds for both the bridgehaven children’s advocacy center and the local drug abuse resistance education program. The bridgehaven-dare golf tournament format is a four-man scramble. there also will be closest-to-the-pin and longest drive prizes. organizers say they have plenty of door prizes. in addition, tournament sponsors are needed, and as always, those SUPPORTERS will receive special recognition at the event. Platinum sponsorships are $1,000 – which includes two four-man teams in tournament play. gold sponsorships are $500 and come with paid entry for one team in the golf tourney. Silver sponsorships are $150. individual golfers can sign up for $80 a person or $300 per the four-person team. that fee includes range balls, cart and green fees along with both breakfast and lunch. once more, the 15th annual bridgehaven-dare golf tournament is set for june 25 at eagle pointe golf course in mt. belvieu. again, registration deadline is this friday. to sign-up or become a sponsor, call bridgehaven children’s advocacy center at 936-258-0400. high island superintendent news story 07.15.10 it’s official - dr. d’ann cathriner-vonderau has been named superintendent for the high island independent school district. her first day there will be july 1. dr cathriner-vonderau has served as hardin isd’s assistant SUPERINTENDENT of business and operations for the past three years. her final day with the hardin school district was yesterday. kshn reported dr. cathriner-vonderau was named the lone finalist for superintendent at the high island independent school district back in may. state law requires school districts wait 21 days after naming a finalist before that decision is made official. following that state-required waiting period, high island trustees voted last tuesday to hire dr. cathriner-vonderau. the local educator graduated from hull-daisetta high school and then earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from university of houston-victoria. she has a doctorate in educational administration from baylor university. prior to serving as hardin’s assistant superintendent, dr. cathriner-vonderau was the high school’s principal. on a personal note, d’ann married mark vonderau of the woodlands in FEBRUARY of this year, and she is the daughter of jerry and patsy jones of hull. now, dr. d’ann cathriner-vonderau has been named superintendent for high island isd. that district has one campus serving 172 students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. INJURED FIRE FIGHTER RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL local news date: 6 15 10 remember the 22-year old Cypress Lakes Volunteer firefighter who was critically injured back on May 10. his name is clayton evans and he has now been released from the hospital to return home. Evans was driving a Cypress Lakes fire department Tanker truck, in response to a call for help at a barn fire when the accident occurred. the fire truck was destroyed. REPORTS OF THE ACCIDENT INDICATE EVANS WAS EJECTED FROM THE rolling FIRE TRUCK. alone in the equipment his injuries includED fractured vertebrae, a broken leg, hip and more. the volunteer firefighter IS expected to recover but that part will take MONTHS. clayton Evans is married with a two-year old daughter and a second child on the way. Neither he nor THE CYP0RESS LAKES VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT HAS insurance to cover his medical bills nor his time off from his full time job. the Liberty County Fire Fighter’s Association has declared June 19th as "Clayton Evans’ Day" every fire department in Liberty County will host some type of fundraiser that day to benefit Evans. when not volunteering with the cypress lakes fire department he WORKED for LIBERTY Lakes Resort west of moss hill on state highway 105. that resort will HOST A free concert, coming up on July 4 from 5PM to 9PM, featuring the Buck Yeager Band. that event WILL also be a barbecue with proceeds BENEFITing clayton Evans. volunteer and PROFESSIONAL fire fighters across liberty county urge you stop by one or MORE of these fundraisers and make a donation to help this young volunteer fire fighters and his family as he recovers from his many injuries. clayton evans and family will benefit from all these efforts being held at fire department across liberty county on june 19th or at the concert and barbecue at liberty county resort slated for the 4th of july taste of dayton LOCAL NEWS 06.15.10 THE dayton chamber of commerce’s SIXTH annual taste of dayton is TODAY FROM 4 TO 7 P.M.
