the celebrated liberty county 4-h HORSE mounted drill team will hold its annual dress rehearsal at 7 p.m. next tuesday, july 6, at the trinity valley exposition fairgrounds. the public is invited to see the reigning state champions in fast freestyle as they prepare for this year’s state finals in abilene. the 4-h mounted drill team will also hold a sandwich sale this friday in conjunction with the city of liberty’s independence day celebration and fireworks show. they will be selling barbecue and pork loin SANDWICHES friday beginning at 4 p.m in the tractor supply parking lot in the jefferson square shopping center. concerning next tuesday’s dress rehearsal, drill master tommy small invites the public to this free demonstration.

twenty eight kids from liberty, chambers, hardin, and harris counties are part of the celebrated liberty county 4-h mounted drill team. they compete in two events – free style and PRECISION, and they will demonstrate both at next tuesday’s dress REHEARSAL. the liberty county mounted 4-h drill team has been successful in recent years. from 2003 through 2008, the team has won the state championship in either fast freestyle or PRECISION. then in 2007, they won both events. they nearly repeated that feat in 2008, missing out by one point in the freestyle event and winning the state championship in precision riding. last year, the liberty county mounted 4-h drill team won the state championship in fast freestyle and placed third in precision riding. this group of talented 4-h kids will demonstrate their skills on horseback next tuesday, july 6, beginning at 7 p.m. at the tve fairgrounds. they will also be selling sandwiches this friday in front of tractor supply beginning at 4 p.m. it’s all to raise money for this year’s trip to the state COMPETITION held the last week of july in abilene.

mark your calendars for this year’s liberty-dayton chamber of commerce steak Dinner, Auction and ‘500’ Drawing set for friday, august 13, at the dayton community center. in the meantime, make sure to get a 500 ticket for your chance to win a john deere all-terrain vehicle – limited edition - or any one of the twelve prizes with a total combined value of more than $20,000. liberty-Dayton Chamber board chairman frank jordan says this year’s 500 prizes include that john deere gator loaded with extras and a family trip.

there are 10 other valuable prizes in this year’s liberty-dayton chamber 500 drawing, each valued at $150 or more. as always, only 500 tickets are sold for a chance to win one of those 12 great prizes. In addition to the popular 500 drawing, there will be both live and silent auctions. For dinner, they will be serving platter-sized steaks and trimmings. The TVE Cooking Team of Barry and Jo Anne Whittaker, Benicia Bendele, plus Susie and Dave Chessher will be cooking those fabulous steaks again this year. This Liberty-Dayton chamber of Commerce’s steak dinner, auction and 500 drawing is set for august 13 at 6 p.m. in the new Dayton community center. Liberty-Dayton 500 tickets are $75 – that includes entry into the drawing for a chance to win one of those 12 great prizes and includes a large steak dinner, fresh from the pit, with all the trimmings and dessert. fire destroyed a 30-foot travel trailer in the moss bluff area early sunday morning. according to moss bluff volunteer fireman john wayne wilson, his department was dispatched to the blaze on country road 1333, at the corner of country road 1335, around 2 a.m. sunday. the moss bluff volunteers were assisted by the liberty and hull-daisetta volunteer fire departments. chief john wayne wilson said the travel trailer’s owner, lester durham, had recently rented out that trailer, but the tennant had not yet moved onto the property where a separate mobile home is also located. the MOBILE home was not damaged by the fire. however, the unoccupied travel trailer and all its contents were destroyed. the moss bluff fire fighter said liberty county fire MARSHALL jim wilson is INVESTIGATING the cause of that fire.
