Liberty Dayton Regional Hospital improves

.10

Improvements continue regularly at Liberty Dayton Regional Hospital. Recently, interim administrator Vicki Gates said her staff wanted to make some more cosmetic changes outside. The hospital paid for some flower bed mulch and employees donated a large number of plants to create new flower beds in key places around the building. Vicki Gates said they called the project "Planting for the Future". Most recent flower bed additions are at the entry door to the patient wing on west side of the building. Still more flowers beds were added by the emergency room entrance. We have already reported that not long ago the Liberty Rotary Club, who paid for the original effort 20 years ago, lead the way to completely rehabilitate and spruce up the old air ambulance landing pad with new paint, new helicopter landing lights, and a lighted wind sock. Major work and expense was absorbed for that job by Cooper Electric of Liberty and by the late Mark Carpenter, a contractor based in Kenefick. Mr. Carpenter perished in an accident in Galveston shortly after completing the work he did at the hospital helipad. All the 25 patient rooms, or most to them, have new patient beds, over-bed tables and fresh paint throughout the building. There has also been some new hospital services added with more in the future. We will provide information on those upgrades in the future. The Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center is a 25 bed joint commission accredited critical access hospital in Liberty. They have 24/7 fully staffed emergency services. There’s digital radiology and CT scans and ultrasound. There a fully staffed up to date medical laboratory, in house Dr’s clinic services Monday through Friday and cardiology services on specific day

Latest dollar update on Relay for Life

5.15.10

Our latest update on the South Liberty County Relay for Life comes to us from Volunteer Co-Chair and Treasurer Sandra Sterling. She extended gratitude to the many businesses, services clubs and hundreds of individual volunteers who help this idea stay alive and growing. To date she revealed the local chapters has raised some $79,500 with more still coming in but now at a slower pace. These locally raised dollars go not only into the National effort for research and development of cancer treatment and patient care and to supply information for cancer sufferers or their families. $79,500 is not the most a South Liberty County Relay has raised but it is, according to Sandra Sterling, a good number. She said the volunteer committee is proud of those who made this an unbelievable success story. Mrs. Sterling closed by saying, Thanks to all of those who helped locally we will have a world with less cancer…. and more birthdays.
