That means lcdc would pay $57,000 while the school district and county would chip in $28,500 each. the proposed deal also gives lcdc the first right to purchase the property or a clear title to sell it. once the property is sold, the three entities will divide the proceeds based on that same formula. these three taxing entities have owned the property since a 2009 tax FORECLOSURE. although historic, this four-story facility is considered by many to be both UNSAFE and unsightly. as a result, the three governmental bodies have been in discussions to demolish the building. now that liberty city council, liberty lisd and liberty county commissioners have all AGREED to pay their share, officials can move forward with the legal steps necessary to demolish the old mercy hospital. a special asbestos abatement permit from the state is for a limited period so officials are on a deadline with that and the $114,000 removal bid. that PERMIT was only recently extended for another 10 days into july. old-river winfree news story 06.30.10 the second old river-winfree founders day celebration is set for friday and saturday, july 16 and 17. volunteer colleen (caw-leen) fontenot said this two-day event offers fun for the whole family. ‘audio" the ole river-winfree founders day kicks off july 16 at 8 a.m. and FESTIVITIES continue throughout that day with a natural beauty pageant for girls ages birth through 18 years old. on saturday, july 17, founders day beings early with a trail ride at 7 a.m. then, there is a 5k run/walk in memory of private first class wesley riggs starting a 7:30 a.m. that 5k event benefits both the wounded WARRIOR project and a memorial scholarship fund for barbers hill graduating seniors. the late wesley riggs graduated from barbers hill high school and enlisted in the army. he died back in 2003 in tikrit, iraq, from injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated. other saturday activities at the old river-winfree founder’s day celebration on july 17 include a dog parade at 9:30 followed by a motorcycle parade at 11. a cupcake-pie baking contest starts at noon with a photography contest beginning at 2 p.m. and historical reenactments starting at 3. an all-string band called the caney creek revelers will be playing music from the 1800s starting at 7:30 that saturday night. also on july 17, just for the kids, there will be a texas-size water slide, face painting, and pony rides. both days include opportunities to shop with a variety of food and merchandise vendors. again, this old river-winfree founders day celebration is set for friday, july 16, and saturday, july 17, on the fairgrounds behind the old river-winfree city hall on fm 565. organizers promise plenty of fun for the whole family. for information or to sign up for events, go to www.orwfoundersday.com. |
