improvements TO I-10 01.16.10

safety improvements are coming to an 18-mile stretch of Interstate 10 between beaumont and winnie. Texas Department of Transportation will oversee a project to install what is called a safety cable barrier system along that area of I-10. TxDOT says the project will begin early this coming week. This cable barrier system is designed to help prevent vehicles from crossing the median and into head-on traffic. TxDOT says it is installing the system due to the number of fatal wrecks along that stretch of i-10. according to Randy Redmond, district Engineer for the beaumont office of txdot, this safety system is among the newest technologies available from highway designers. the engineer said his goal is to make the highways of Southeast Texas as safe as possible. TxDOT has already installed the CABLE-barrier system on portions of I-10 in Orange and other parts of Chambers County. National Fence, the project contractor, expects this $2 million project to be completed in less than 10 months. TxDOT says most of the work will be performed at night. officials are reminding motorists to drive safely in the work-zone and to watch for both workers and stopped vehicles. again, that project will begin this coming week along I-10 between winnie and beaumont.
