montoya arrested news story 06.14.10 a 24-y ear-old liberty man is in the liberty county jail, charged with INDECENCY with a child. liberty pd public information officer hugh bishop said JOSEPH montoya was arrested last thursday evening at a local residence. according to officer bishop, a woman called police to report another family member says she had walked INTO a room where a partially disrobed 8-year-old girl was being touched by joseph montoya. earlier this year liberty police arrested the accused for AGGRAVATED assault; however, hugh bishop said that case was no-billed by a grand jury. now, 24-year-old joseph montoya is jailed for INDECENCY with a child. justice of the peace pct. 1 bobby rader set bond at $100,000 on the liberty man. weekend recap news story 06.12.10
over the weekend, kshn reported security state bank has REACHED an agreement with LEGEND bank to acquire the ASSETS and LIABILITIES of its dayton bank. The sale is dated june 10 but is subject to regulatory APPROVAL. security state bank is based in anahuac and now owns financial centers in anahuac and liberty. security state president and ceo gary vandeventer of liberty said his company is excited to expand their banking PRESENCE in liberty county. also on saturday, kshn reported area residents are invited to the 2010 public hurricane awareness workshop this thursday at 6 p.m. in the liberty center at city hall. liberty county EMERGENCY management coordinator tom branch said speakers include officials with the national weather service and red cross plus others directly INVOLVED helping in such community EMERGENCIES. they will address issues of IMPORTANCE regarding what experts believe will be a very active hurricane season, which runs through november 30. for INFORMATION, call the liberty county EMERGENCY management office at 936-334-3219. that workshop, again, is open to the public THURSDAY at 6 p.m. at the liberty center. there is no charge. genealogical society news story 06.14.10 The Liberty County Genealogical Society will meet tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research center. Society President, Linda Jamison, will make a power-point presentation on Orphan Trains and their impact on genealogical research. from 1854 to 1929, an estimated 250,000 orphaned, abandoned and homeless children, as well as poor families, from new york were placed in homes in other states, primarily in farming communities in the Midwest and Southwest. in addition to the presentation by linda jamison, a PBS American Experience film called "The Orphan Trains" will be shown. This documentary includes interviews with adults that started new lives after riding the orphan trains and joining new families. this monthly liberty county genealogical society meeting is tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the upstairs meeting room of the sam houston center. local man arrested part 2 news story 06.14.10 we have an IMPORTANT update on a report that aired over the weekend. we reported that a local man was arrested in beaumont early friday morning for felony theft and POSSESSION of drug paraphernalia. beaumont pd apparently misIDENTIFIED the man in a press release as Bishop Taylor Randolph; however, RANDOLPH’S family members told kshn that the person in jail is actually that man’s older brother – RUSSELL randolph. kshn contacted the beaumont police department on sunday but was unable to speak with the public INFORMATION office to clarify the press release. we then contacted the jefferson county jail. the clerk there said they are holding 51-year-old russell orin RANDOLPH on a CHARGE OF felony theft. it all began early friday morning. that’s when a beaumont police officer was patrolling the area of college and 11th street around 4 a.m. an officer spotted someone on the old Baptist Hospital roof. beaumont police searched the BUILDING and found a man with a large pile of freshly cut copper tubing. that’s when the CONFUSION began because that man apparently provided police with the wrong name – IDENTIFYING himself by using his younger brother’s name. jail records seem to confirm the man in custody for friday morning’s felony theft is 51-year-old russell orin RANDOLPH of hardin. jefferson county pct 8 justice of the peace tom gillam iii set bond on that charge at $10,000. the jail clerk said RUSSELL RANDOLPH must also serve 180 days on a previous possession of controlled substance conviction. no word on wheather russell randolph will face additional charges for providing a false report to a peace officer or failure to IDENTIFY. |
