There was an excellent turnout for the first of five blood drives to be held at the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department. Both the Dayton Police Department and Dayton Volunteer Fire Department are teaming with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center to hold a blood drive each Tuesday morning in September. There is a real blood donor shortage during the covid19 pandemic. Blood drive organizer Patti Jett, with the city of Dayton, said they really hope donors will pre-register but that is not required. Every Tuesday morning in the month of September from 8 AM until 11AM the Gulf Coast Blood Center of Houston staff will be on hand at the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department for this drive. One other thing, although sign ups are not required, they are preferred to help with social distancing for donors. For those who can sign up in advance, go online to daytontx.org/giveblood.. Masks are required. But If you do not have one, the staff will offer one. Again, these Dayton blood drives are each Tuesday in September from 8 AM until 11 AM at the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department - 2004 North Cleveland Street in Dayton. When giving a pint of blood the donor is saving a life.
