Abbot and STAAR


Monday, Governor Greg Abbott announced that he has waived the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) testing requirements for the 2019-2020 school years. The Governor is also requesting that the Department of Education waive federal testing requirements for the 2019-2020 school year. In a press release the Governor said he is working closely with the Texas Education Agency to ensure schools continue to deliver instruction to students while school is closed due to the Coronavirus. Governor Abbot said the state will give schools the power to make decisions to protect their communities from the Coronavirus. He also said superintendents should continue to prioritize health and safety of students, staff, and families. Again on Monday Governor Greg Abbott waived the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness testing requirement for the 2019 -2020 school year due to the Coronavirus threat. The Governor is also asking the Department of Education to waive federal testing requirements.

 At about the same time   yesterday President Donald Trump urged all older Americans to stay home. He asked everyone to avoid crowds and eating out at restaurants as part of the sweeping guidelines meant to combat an expected surge of coronavirus cases.
