Some drama played out in Chambers County last week as the Chambers County Sheriffs Department had one suspect attempt to flee, first in a truck, then on foot. It was last Wednesday afternoon when the sheriffs department responded to a man trying to buy a trailer with a what turned out to be a stolen credit card. That man was identified as 25 year old Myles Curtis Akins of Austin. He had an outstanding felony theft warrant out of Bexar County. Akins was arrested while his companion, identified as 27-year old Michael Anthony Barrientos, of San Antonio. He refused orders from Chambers Co. Deputies and tried to escape. Deputies shot the front right tire partially disabling the vehicle. Reports indicate the man tried to accelerate through a parking lot reportedly striking several trailers before he trying to escape on foot. Barrientos was quickly captured. Chambers County deputies searched the vehicle revealing several firearms, credit cards and birth certificates none belonging to the suspects. Both were arrested and are in residence at the Chambers County Jail. Myles Curtis Akins was charged with Credit Card Abuse - a State Jail Felony. Michael Anthony Barrientos was charged with Evading Arrest & Detention, credit card abuse, and failure to identify. Barrientos is being held on $35,000 bond. A $15,000 bond was set for Akins on Credit Card Abuse but bond was refused on Akins for a charge in Bexar County.
