Update and a Correction: Chase Blazes Through Liberty County

Updated: May 22

It was a vehicle stolen out of Baytown that led officers from numerous law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase. The chase started about four Thursday afternoon in Liberty when Liberty Police tried to stop the stolen truck on FM 563. The truck pulled over as if to comply with the officers, before taking off again and turning east on Highway 90. The pursuit reached speeds of up to 100 mph. The stolen truck reportedly belonged to Almcoe Refrigeration. As the suspect flew down 90 toward Jefferson County, the Liberty PD attempted to stop the vehicle using what are called spike strips. The driver was able to avoid the strips. The Chase continued for sometime ending in Vidor when, after hitting 2 other cars, the stolen truck lost a wheel, and while it did continue on for a short distance, eventually the driver bailed out of the passenger window and tried to flee on foot. Beaumont PD and a Jefferson County Constables office quickly took him into custody.  The driver of the stolen truck was identified as 34-year-old Taylor Blain Meier. Liberty Police Lt. Chip Fairchild says Meier will be charged with evading arrest and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Taylor Meier was taken to St. Elisabeth’s hospital in Beaumont with unknown injuries. Lt. Fairchild said Meier will either be taken to the Liberty County Jail or if, admitted at the hospital will have a warrant issued for his arrest. Taylor Meier already has a warrant out of Hardin County unauthorized use of a motor vehicle .  The chase lasted about 56 minutes.
