Chop shop shut down in Liberty Co.

This past Thursday, the Liberty county sheriff’s department located multiple stolen vehicles at what is called a “chop shop” on CR-3405 in north Liberty County. At that location, they found a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup and a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, both had been reported stolen. There were multiple car parts from other vehicles on the property. The owner of the business was identified as Rogelio Barajas Herrera, 49. Herrera indicated that the two vehicles had arrived at that location earlier that day. The deputies were advised that he had told his son to start disassembling the vehicles.

Further investigation showed that the ignition switches had been damaged. Herrera was not able to identify the person that delivered the pickups to the shop. He told the deputies that the man was known as “Chiquito”. It was determined that Rogelio Barajas Herrera knowingly received stolen property. He was arrested and charged with Theft – a Third Degree Felony. Herrera was transported to the Liberty County jail without incident. The investigation will continue. Anyone with information on “Chiquito” is asked to contact the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at 936-336-4500.
