Dayton Broncos Football Gearing Up

The lights of Friday Night are beckoning- high school football is nearly upon us. New Head Football Coach of Dayton High School has been on the job for several months. He is Blake Ware and we had chance to visit on the air with his Offensive Coordinator Philip Pendleton and Dayton Bronco Defensive Coordinator Freddy Strange.  Coach Blake Ware, was born and raised in Houston and played one year of College Football at Lamar University in 1989 until their football program was discontinued. He did complete college and after he coached a little league program all he ever wanted to do was coach football. Blake Ware’s first coaching job was at Houston St. Thomas in 1996, after a decade or two in coaching, he comes as head coach to Dayton from New Caney High.  With all that has been going on, Coach Ware is prepping his team for a very different season.  The Broncos have been working out for the last five weeks and Ware also mentioned that the UIL has added an hour daily for training. He and his other coaches are focusing on a positive attitude among all the Dayton players. Right now they are concentrating on a season that begins with a scrimmage with Galveston Ball High School of Friday, September 18th. Then the first actual game is Thursday, September 24th, versus Lake Creek.  With that in mind, the first full day of practice will come on Labor Day, Monday, September 7th. He reminds his players to never forget - “the journey is the reward" – . Of course, one big question is, tickets for the games. Coach Ware said tickets will go first to the families of the players, cheerleaders and band members, then on Tuesday of game week, those that remain will go on sale to the public. Of course, the one certainty in this pandemic is that nothing is final until it’s final. Change can still happen depending on things that are out of our control, like the Covid-19 pandemic.
