Dayton high school debaters have enjoyed success in recent years. That includes having some of their members continue their High School debate at the collegiate level. DHS debaters, who enrolled with Lee College through dual credit courses are eligible to compete in Lee College debate, at the same time, A 2020 Dayton Senior Ryan Roseman was a part of the Lee College squad that recently won the International Public Debate Association National Community College Championship. Roseman acknowledged that his role in the national tournament with Lee College was small, but he was excited about being a debater in high school and college at the same time. He was not the first from Dayton to do that. 2017 Dayton Debater Vanessa Rangel also competed with the Lee College Championship Debate Team. She was a four year member of Dayton Debate, earning a full scholarship to Lee in debate. She now wants to be a debate coach. Next year, Vanessa Rangel transfers to the University of Arkansas-Monticello, again on a full ride debate scholarship to major in Political Science and Communications. Sh plans to become a teacher and debate coach. Dayton Hi School Debate Coach James Kingsmill said being a part of a national collegiate championship team is an honor few debaters experience.
