High-Speed Chase

A high-speed chase ended in the Walmart parking lot in Liberty early Tuesday Morning. It began when a Liberty County Sheriff’s deputy saw a van parked at the gas pumps at the Exxon station on far North Main Street in Liberty, before 1:30 AM. When the deputy pulled into the parking lot and tried to block the van in, the driver drove away.  The suspect raced south on North Main with the deputy in pursuit. The van slowed near Buddy’s furniture rental store, and there the driver jumped from the moving vehicle. The passenger then slid over to the driver's seat and kept going. He raced through the Wal-Mart parking lot followed by the Deputy. The second driver stopped the van and tried to flee on foot. The Liberty Co. Sheriff’s deputy was able to over take and capture te man before he could escape.  Inside the van, the deputy found tools and a card reader thought to have come from a gas pump at  the Exxon Station. 35-year-old Yexis Benavides Estrada was housed at the Liberty County Jail, charged with evading arrest, a second-degree felony, and for fraud by using the card reader and its identifying information. That’s a state jail felony. The first driver who jumped from vehicle is still a fugitive.
