Man found dead 11.5.20 KSHN reported last week that a hunter had found an unidentified body in the river bottom between Liberty and Dayton. The Liberty Police began an investigation and said the body was found in the pasture on the south side of US 90 between Liberty and Dayton.  Justice of the Peace Stephen Hebert ordered an autopsy. It was performed in Jefferson County on Monday with local law enforcement present. The manner of death was concluded to be homicide.  Currently the only information we have is the body has been identified as a white or Hispanic male, 20 to 35 years of age, said to be of slim build and was less than 5’8” tall. Detectives with Liberty Police are working with Texas Ranger Brandon Bess and other agencies to make a positive identification. The victim was thought to have been at that location for at least a week, perhaps a little longer. The victim was partially clothed and had some tattoos. One informed police source said he was not thought to have been a local man since thee is no missing person report from Liberty County. If anyone has seen anything that may have been suspicious, please contact the Liberty Police Department at 936-336-5666. Tipsters will remain anonymous.
