Liberty County native, Cole Melancon, keeps racking up the points in national bull riding competition. This last weekend Cole finished with a strong 12th place finish in a professional Bull Riding event held at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth., Liberty County resident Cole Melancon now stands as the 9th rated bull rider in the world rankings. The event titled “Unleash the Beast”. Melancon’s rides earned him 5-5 series points in the rodeo, propelling his yearly total to 302.50 points. His weekend rides earned Melancon $1159.36, which bought his yearly earnings through August to $271,000. Melancon has actually won two events this year; He won the PBR Iron Cowboy event in Los Angeles, California and The Lexington Classic in Lexington, Kentucky. When Cole isn’t on the rodeo road, he is busy at home in Liberty, Texas, working on a place that he bought last year. He also takes advantage of any opportunity to help any of the ranchers in the area. We are told those ranching and cowboy skills came in handy back in October when he was part of a team that won a ranch rodeo at TVE last October.
