Teen Shot: A North Liberty Co. teenager is the victim of an accidental shooting. According to Captain Ken DeFoor of the Liberty Co. Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday night, Juan P. Herrera Lopez reportedly shot his 15-year old son, accidentally, in his lower back. Mr. Lopez was cleaning his 9 mm semi-automatic pistol. The incident is said to have occurred at their home on CR 3560 in North Liberty County. The teenager, age 15, was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston by Life Flight. His condition is not thought to be life threatening. The investigation continues.

Hospital Donations: Liberty Dayton Regional Hospital CEO Matt Thornton is asking the public for donations of personal protective equipment such as N-95 masks, surgical masks, and unopened boxes of medical gloves. Mr. Thornton also said the hospital will accept homemade masks but those masks will only be used if medical grade masks are not avalible. Bring any donations to Liberty Dayton Hospital or call (936) 336-7316, extension 149 for details. Mr. Thornton said, as of now, the hospital has plenty of supplies on hand but department heads are concerned they might not be able to replenish those supplies when the inventory is exhausted.

Blood Donors: The plea for blood donors nationwide grows daily. It’s so important but very easy to put off with the events connected to this pandemic that affects us all. This news report is for everyone. If any listener has wanted to be a blood donor but perhaps are apprehensive about the first time to donate–you are not alone.  Nettie Giglio a phlebotomist and supervisor with Life Share Blood Center in Beaumont said donating blood is simple. First the donor gets a mini-physical. Once the needle stick is done it typacly only take 30 to 45 minuets. Once they have the pint drawn the donor is escorted to the Life Share Cantina. There snacks are provided to replenish your system. The main Life Share donation center is at 4305 Laurel Ave in Beaumont. They are open Monday thru Saturday. Walk-ins are welcome or give them a call at (409) 838-5289 for reservations. Or Life Share will have one of their Motor Coaches in Liberty at the Wal-Mart parking lot Thursday April 9th from 12:30 to 5:30 PM and at Liberty Dayton Regional Hospital Thursday, April 16th. Social Media: The Dayton Police Department normally has an active social media presence. However, with the Coronavirus public health emergency the Department has taken a step back. Dayton Police Chief Rob Vine, said his department does not want to contradict information being put out by other sources. He said now any post made on a Dayton PD Media page originates from other sources such as the Liberty County Office of Emergency Management, CDC, or Texas State Department of Health services. Chief Rob Vine said the last thing his department wants is do is create confusion. ************************************************

Obits: Marie Jones Johnston, 85,

of Liberty passed away at her home on March 28th. Graveside service for Mrs. Johnston will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at Pace-Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens, Cleveland, Texas.
