Covid 19: Three more COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Liberty County. Tuesday afternoon, Liberty County Emergency Management officials reported the 46th, 47th, and 48th confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the County. The 46th case is a man 50-60 years of age, the 47th case is a man 30 to 40 years old, and the 48th confirmed COVID-19 case is a woman 30-40 years old. All three live in North Liberty County and are recovering at home. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic 324 people have been tested, returning 48 positive cases, 254 tested negative for the virus and 22 are pending. Liberty County has 2 deaths attributed to the effects COVID-19.
City Barbershop: After 84 years, the City Barbershop is moving! Don Franklin owner of the barbershop said when the governor gives the ok for barbers shops to reopen the City Barbershop will open in its new home in Daisetta. Many young Liberty boys got there first hair cut at the City Barbershop-1933 Trinity. With this move, the courthouse square will not have a barbershop for the first time in at least 89 years. The new City Barbershop will be in Daisetta at 101 Pine St.. Don Franklin said the new location is larger. Gov. Abbott has said barbershops can reopen this Friday.
Blood Drive: First Baptist Church -Dayton will host their quarterly blood drive tomorrow (Thursday) May 7th from 2 to 6 pm in the Family Life Center building on the northwest corner of S. Church St. @ E. Houston St. in Dayton. The waiting area will be in the hallway with appropriate social distancing between chairs. It’s a great opportunity to save lives. Please give a pint of blood tomorrow and know those who do will make a difference.
Liberty Library: You can now call and check out books and DVDs, at Liberty Municipal Library. To see what is available visit www.liberty.biblionix.com . The catalog will show if what a person is looking for is available to check out. Then call the library at 936-336-8901 and give name, library card number, phone number and the time you will pick up. A Liberty Municipal staff member will put your materials on the outside table. The Library staff asks that those checking out, in this manner, to remain in your vehicle until library staff member goes back inside. This front door pickup service will be from 10 am until 4 pm Monday through Thursday and 1 to 4 on Friday. The Liberty Municipal Library is at 1710 Sam Houston Street in Liberty.
Chambers County Drowning: Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne reported just that after 10 Monday morning, they were notified of an unattended kayak floating in the part of Galveston Bay that’s in Chambers County. A US Coast Guard helicopter joined the search and it was they who located a body in the water southeast of Kemah near what is known as Redfish Island. Detectives have identified the victim as Christopher Simmons, age 39, from Wallis, TX. Justice of the Peace Larry Cryer preformed an inquest and ordered an autopsy.
Red Cross: The American Red Cross began an Emergency Financial Assistance Program mostly to residents in and around Onalaska in Polk Co. Eligible households can get financial assistance to support emergency needs after the Southeast Texas Tornado outbreak April 22nd. Damage in Onalaska was severe with 3 fatalities and 30 + injuries. This program is for residences sustaining major damage or were destroyed. Heads of households are encouraged to call 1-800-REDCROSS to start their application. The application effort will continue thru Monday May 25.
