UPDATE: Missing Boater found and Identified

Sheriff Hawthorne reports that great efforts on the part of the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division, United States Coast Guard, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Kemah Fire/Rescue, League City Fire/Rescue, City of Webster Fire/Rescue, Nassau Bay Fire/Rescue, Seabrook Fire/Police, Texas DPS and Port of Houston Authority have resulted in the recovery and identification of Shawn Robert Scarbrough, 40, of Palestine, Texas, as the victim in the boating accident that occurred on Saturday, June 13 in the Chambers County waters in Kemah, Texas.






Sheriff Hawthorne reports that Saturday, at approximately 6:07 p.m., calls came in to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office dispatch of a boating accident near channel marker light 67 in the Houston Ship Channel, approximately 5 miles east of Kemah, in Chambers County waters. There were four occupants of an 18 foot watercraft, two adult males and two children ages 11 and 13; the boat turned sharply, throwing all three passengers out of the boat and in to the water. The boat’s operator immediately attempted to recover the three passengers, and he was able to rescue the 11 and 13 year olds. Authorities were notified and a joint effort went under way between Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, United States Coast Guard, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Kemah Fire/Rescue, League City Fire/Rescue, City of Webster Fire/Rescue, Nassau Bay Fire/Rescue, Seabrook Fire/Police, Texas DPS and Port of Houston Authority.

A search continued through the night and is ongoing today utilizing boat and air assets. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division of Chambers County Sheriff’s Office are conducting an investigation into the incident, along with Texas Parks and Wildlife and the United Stated Coast Guard.
