A traffic stop in Chambers County results in a large drug bust. Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne said, earlier this week, Deputy Ethan Kahla stopped a 2020 truck traveling east on Interstate-10 for failure to maintain a single lane. According to the Chambers County Sheriff, his Deputy got the opinion the driver, identified as Donald Barrows, 37, of Tacoma, Washington, appeared nervous. The deputy requested consent to search the vehicle but Barrows denied consent. The counties narcotics dog, K-9 Harvey, was called and used to conduct a search the perimeter of the vehicle. While conducting what’s called the free-air sniff of the vehicle, Harvey alerted, at which time Barrows was advised that a probable cause search would be conducted on the vehicle. The vehicle search revealed 78 vacuum sealed clear bags, weighing approximately 1 pound each, and containing what law enforcement believed to be marijuana in 4 different suit cases inside the vehicle. Barrows was arrested for Possession of Marijuana and transported to the Chambers County Jail. There Justice of the Peace for Precinct 5, David Hatfield, set bond at $40,000 on the Tacoma, Washington man.
