Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest

A Tuesday traffic stop by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Criminal Interdiction Unit resulted in the arrest of a Convicted Felon. According to Sheriff Bobby Radar, the Criminal Interdiction unit pulled over a pickup for multiple traffic violations on Main Street in Daisetta. Deputies learned the driver, 34-year-old Jason Campbell, had a suspended driver's license. They got permission from Mr. Campbell to search the truck during that effort they found a bolt action rifle, a glass pipe commonly used to smoking crystal methamphetamines. The lawmen also found a plastic bag in the pick-up truck with a crystal-like substance. Jason Campbell was found to be a convicted felon and with that conviction he was not allowed to have a firearm. Deputies affected an arrested and taken to the Liberty County Jail. Sheriff Radar says Campbell is now additionally charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. That is a Third-Degree Felony. Another new charge is Possession of a Controlled Substance – that is a State Jail Felony. The man is being held in the Liberty County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
