Transport van catches fire in Dayton

On Tuesday Morning, September 15th, a Jefferson County prisoner transport van caught fire on State Highway 321 near the intersection of FM 1960 in Dayton. According to Jefferson County Sheriffs Department Public Information Officer Crystal Holmes, the van was en-route to the Harris County Jail empty to transport prisoners back to Jefferson County The vehicle experienced mechanical issues at around 8:45AM. We learned the van did catch fire but the two deputies were able to extinguish the fire with on-board fire extinguishers. The public information officer from Jefferson Co. told a reporter from KSHN there were no prisoners on the van at the time of the fire. We are told there was damage to the vehicle but it was repairable. Neither Deputy was injured and the prisoner transport van was returned to Jefferson County.
