Death: A 17 year old male is dead following a shooting in Plum Grove. The victim is said to have called 911 to report that he had been shot multiple times. When deputies arrived, they found the man dead inside the home with his cell phone near him. The young man is not being identified awaiting notification of his family. Shortly after the call to law enforcement and the subsequent finding of the young man’s body, a person of interest was taken into custody by Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies in New Caney. Texas Ranger Brandon Bess took the suspect to the Liberty County Jail for questioning. The person of interest is said to be under the age of 21 and driving a car with Tennessee license plates. Again, a 17 year old living in the Montebello Subdivision south of Plum Grove is dead, apparently of multiple gun shot wounds and another man, said to be under 21, is being questioned by authorities.


Election Day: It’s Election Day and registered Liberty County voters will be casting ballots for Presidential, congressional as well as several other state wide races. Some boxes have been consolidated to save taxpayer money on boxes that are fairly close. Precinct 5, 19, and 27 are consolidated at the Jack Hartel Community Building at 318 San Jacinto in Liberty, Voting at the Cleveland Civic Center 210 Peach Ave will be for Precinct 7, and 12. Moving to Precinct 15, and 1, those voters will cast their ballot at the North Liberty County Volunteer Fire Department on FM 787 in Romayor. Precinct 21 and 28 will vote at the Kenefick Southern Baptist Church on FM 1008 in Kenefick. Last, but not least, voting for Precinct 24 and 29 is at the South Liberty County Volunteer Fire Department on FM 1409. Be sure to check your voter registration card for the right polling location. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today. If you have questions about where to vote, contact the Liberty County Election Administrator’s Office at 936-253-8050. They will be staffed all day today. KSHN.COM will broadcast election returns this evening from Liberty County and Chambers Countyraces when the votes are counted- we will take the air shortly after the polls close at 7 p.m.


Grant: City of Dayton has secured a $700,000 Comprehensive rail, infrastructure and safety improvement grant from the Federal Rail Administration. Dayton City Manager Theo Melancon, on Monday’s Party Line Program, talked more about the grant. Mr. Melancon said it took a combined effort of local, state, and federal officials to get this grant. The Grant monies will be used to study a grade railroad crossing at the various street crossings in Daytonincluding crossing US 90. That grant includes advanced planning and evaluations for Dayton’s biggest nightmare for decades. This $700,000 is most for planning and preparation and engineering for that job still some years away before construction begins.


Obit: Robert J. “Bobby” Scherer 82 of Anahuacdied Saturday. A celebration of life will be held this Friday March 6th at 1 PM First United Methodist Church Anahuac under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home of Anahuac. Johnny “Dickie” Lovell Johnson, age 61, passed away Friday February 28. Visitation is today March 3, 5-8 PM at Allison Funeral Service, in Liberty. A funeral service will be 10 AM Wednesday March 4th.
