Two arrested for murder

In a press release, Captain Ken DeFoor, the Public Information Officer for the Liberty County Sheriffs Department shared information about a recent murder and the two men now in custody The two individuals arrested have been identified as 46-year old Craig Russell Bryant of Tarkington. He was arrested at his home in the 200 block of CR 2292 and 53 year old Randal Scott Dowden, who was arrested at his home in the Casey Ridge area of FM 1485 in New Caney.

These two men have been arrested in the alleged murder of 66-year old Robert Strong of Tarkington.  Early Wednesday morning, September 16rh, Strong was shot to death at his home on Pine Court. That’s off of CR 2282. Initially, Strong’s death was reported to the sheriff’s office as a possible suicide. A neighbor, who heard the early morning gunshot coming from Strong’s home.  The neighbor went, later that morning,  to check on his welfare and found Mr. Strong’s body inside a shed. When deputies arrived, they discovered there was no firearm near Strong’s body and there were signs of forced entry into the home. With that investigators were called to take over the case. Details gathered revealed the motive for the shooting was a threat that Strong reportedly made against one of the men’s family members, according to Liberty County S.O. Investigator Mark Ellington. The suspects allegedly then took the law into their own hands and killed Strong before he could carry out his threat. Those law enforcement officers, involved in the investigation, were Captain Billy Knox, James McQueen and Mark Ellington all of the Liberty County Sheriffs Department. Texas Rangers Brandon Bess and Ryan Clendennen aided in the investigation. Pct. 5 Justice of the Peace Wade Brown performed the inquest and ordered an autopsy. Both Bryant and Dowden have been booked into the Liberty County Jail. No bond has been set.
