Two dead, teenager found alive, in Chambers County boating incident

Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne reports that on July 7, 2020 at approximately 8:00 p.m. the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an abandoned boat possibly involved in an accident that had run ashore in Galveston Bay near Red Bluff Point. Investigation revealed that the boat was a rental and due back to a Kemah rental company by 7:00 p.m. Items on the boat led deputies to believe that a young teenager might be one of the victims involved. The Chambers County Marine Unit, along with Texas Parks and Wildlife, the U.S. Coast Guard, Pasadena Police Department and Seabrook Police Department began searching the area in hopes of recovering the boaters. Late in the evening, a 13 year old female was located holding on to a life vest and was recovered from the waterways. She was brought ashore in Seabrook, provided medical attention and is recovering. Information received from the female revealed that two additional people were still missing. A search continued through the night and early this morning, at approximately 8:19 a.m., a deceased 62 year old male was recovered from the waterways. At approximately 3:00 p.m. this afternoon the remains of a 31 year old female were recovered near El Jardin Beach. Sheriff Hawthorne and the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office’s thoughts and prayers go out to the victims’ families and friends.
