Unemployment Benefits

Governor Greg Abbott has waived the 10-day waiting period to apply for unemployment benefits if your job has been affected by the Coronavirus-COVID-19. The Texas Workforce Commission, on their website, said Texans can apply for benefits either online anytime using Unemployment Benefits Services or by calling TWC’s Tele-Center at 800-939-6631 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday. The site also asks for patience as they are experiencing an increase in call volumes and hold times on the Tele-Center phone lines. The Texas Workforce Commission is encouraging those affected by the covid-19 disaster, to use the online claim portal, Unemployment Benefits Services (UBS ), to handle your unemployment claim quickly. Please note: UBS is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. TWC is also encouraging Texans to sign up for Electronic Correspondence so they can receive your TWC communications online as soon as possible.

TWC will investigate why you lost your job and mail a decision explaining if you are eligible for unemployment benefits. It should be noted, that Extended Benfits (EB) and Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) are not available right now.
